About the speaker

Jesper Højlund is Director of Solution Sales Logistics at Roima Intelligence, where he leads warehouse and logistics solutions across the Nordics. He has worked with warehouse management and automation for years — across retail, wholesale, manufacturing, and industrial operations — and is particularly focused on how WMS and automation work together to drive real operational performance, not just in individual machines, but across the warehouse as a whole.

The WMS as Orchestrator — Getting More Out of Your Automation

Automation creates capacity. But whether that capacity is actually used depends less on the machines themselves than on how the warehouse management system governs them. In this session, Jesper Højlund explores the practical boundary between automation and warehouse management: what belongs in the WMS, what belongs in the automation layer, and why getting that boundary right is often the difference between an automation investment that delivers and one that becomes a bottleneck. Drawing on examples from Nordic warehouses, the session focuses on how WMS-driven logic — task sequencing, article distribution, batch management, and cross-area coordination — determines the real throughput of an automated warehouse.
